You're Invited

What better way to follow Laura's love stamp, than with wedding invitations! One of my best friends recently got engaged, so I have been thinking a lot about unique wedding ideas, specifically invitations. Invitations are the first glimpse you give your guests of the big day to come, making them pretty important. There should be a certain mood that you suggest through this first impression. Just this week, while wandering through Pinterest (pretty much my only extracurricular activity for the past month), I found these amazing wedding invitation coasters by Ross Clodfelter featured on Design Work Life. The text and design are elegant and dainty, yet the cardboard coasters add a relaxed feel to the whole thing. Pretty + fun = perfection.

Ruby Tuesday

My day job involves a lot of time on the internet. Most of that time I am just looking for inspiration and more often than not, I stumble upon something that I want to share on Pretty Things. Such is the case here when I discovered this gorgeous stamp designed by Lousie Fili Ltd. for Valentine's Day. If anyone reading this lives in the United States and can get their hands on one, contact us immediately!

Sunday Best

My obsession with yellow (mustard yellow in particular) has led to this week's choice of style blog. All This Happiness really did make me incredibly happy when I found this colour throughout a lot of the recent posts. Blogger, Kaitlin Resler seems to be bright and cheerful and witty.  Most importantly, her details are always dead-on. For example, one would think puke coloured tights would be a disaster, but somehow Kaitlin figures them out and the end result is beautiful, with just a dash of oddball. I know that's the recipe I look for in an outfit.

Losing My Marbles

I've always been fascinated with nail polish. As a kid, I owned upwards of 30 bottles of polish. My favourite was a glow-in-the-dark matte colour that I would constantly test in our basement to make sure it still luminously glowed. My most recent purchase was a matte topcoat from Butter London which looks amazing on top of black and and neon coloured polishes.

Ruby Tuesday

This Ruby Tuesday is dedicated to my Mom, who celebrates her birthday this week! My Mom has always had great style, and as we can see here, it started at a young age. Photographed in an adorable red coat, she looks picture perfect. I love looking through old photos of her and getting inspiration for outfits. The image itself is also quite lovely. I really enjoy that the rest of the photo is fairly neutral and the only pop of colour is her coat. Next up: photo inspiration from the 70's!

Sunday Best

For a little over 4 years now, photographer Katja Hentschel has been capturing and documenting the styles of Berlin (and a few other places) on her blog glamcanyon. Bold colours and patterns seem to be a common thread among the Berlin stylish. Click here for my favourite outfit which features the perfect pairing of red and green outside of Christmas.

DIY Dotted Denim

It's no secret that Pretty Things is slightly obsessed with polka dots. Okay, we're head over heels in love! When I spotted (literally) a few pairs of dotted jeans in the spring line ups, namely a green pair by Current/Elliott, I couldn't take my eyes off of them. It wasn't long before the crafty in me came through and decided to make my own! I thought about using a stencil, but couldn't find one that fit the bill so I just free painted the polka dots. I think they turned out pretty darn cute if you ask me. Especially when you take into account that they came to a total cost of $20.95 + tax.

Ruby Tuesday

A little while ago I returned from a 2-year stint as a backpacker/bartender in London, England. I loved London and I especially loved the shopping. Everything seemed more risky, more unique, and more fun. To this day, I still miss the wonderful UK shoe store Office. Occasionally, I will check the website to see if there are shoes worth the cost of exchange and shipping. These red, polka dot lined mid heels are coming close to being totally worth it! Should I or shouldn't I?

Sunday Best

My new favourite fashion blog is pretty much the perfect marriage of fashion and art. Believe me, the mingling of colours, graphics and unique images will have you craving more. Each post on Amateur Couture features several images with a visible theme. It's as if you are taken to your own little curated show with each visit. Taking images from several sources in most posts, Amateur Couture truly puts something cohesive and breathtaking together every time.

The posts are great for grabbing inspiration for an outfit, particularly when you're in a certain mood. I especially love the sunny disposition of the more recent posts that has me yearning for spring! Tangerine, sparkly collars, knotted necklaces, and ankle boots, yes please!

Get it in Print

I have an addiction. It's true. I love magazines. The pictures, the content, the layout. It's probably why I dedicate so much of my own time to voluntarily working for one and why I dedicate so much of my own time reading them.

Ruby Tuesday

Design Sponge recently did a beautiful post on the beautiful home of Paula Mills and her family. A mix of vintage and modern, the home is dainty and bold all at once. There are pops of red in almost every room, including a red kettle, stacked cans of tomatoes and a red velvet couch to name a few. This bright red door at the entry to the house really had me wanting to invite myself in though! What a wonderful way to bring a bit of the whimsy from the interior to the exterior of the home. I also must mention the illustrated decal you see by Shanna Murray is definitely the cherry on the top of this Ruby Tuesday.

Sunday Best

In addition to our new weekly feature Ruby Tuesday, Pretty Things will also be bringing you our Sunday Best. Every Sunday we will feature our favourite style blogs from the great world wide web.

First up is Urban Weeds, a street style blog from Portland, Oregon. I personally love the black and white portraits that photographer Lisa Warninger features with each post. It makes it more intimate, as if we are looking into this person's closet and not just at their outfit. I'll admit I never really knew much about Portland, or Oregon for that matter. But since I've started stalking Urban Weeds on a regular basis, I've decided that the laid-back, yet still put-together style appeals to me. Now, I kind of want to go there and experience it first hand.
