(Temporary) Goodbye

Don't be sad, we'll be in touch!    painting by Luke Chueh
First off, we want to thank all of our loyal readers and followers who have supported Pretty Things this past year. We are forever grateful to all of you. However, it is with sad regret that Pretty Things will be taking a semi-retirement. With upcoming nuptials, new jobs, and new homes, we  have decided to reitre the PT blog for a little while until there is enough time in our lives to give Pretty Things the dedication it deserves. We promise to come back in some capacity or another, but until that time comes, we will be keeping our Facebook page updated with personal projects and stuff we love. Thanks again to all you wonderful people and we hope to come out of retirement soon.

Living Pretty

It's a little bit sad that 2012 is coming to a close. One reason I'm a little glum is because my Bookhou printed linen 2012 calendar will have to come down from my wall. Luckily I have found a smart replacement. Over at Ship & Shape Fine Goods you can purchase a wonderfully celestial, 2013 Full Moon Calendar. The print is beautifully drawn by Isa Gagarin and it let's you know when to be wary of a full moon. Perfect.

Tree Time

Looking to update your tree decor? Search no further. LEIF has beautiful and quirky tree ornaments that do the job for you! From sparkling beetles to porcelain pinecones, you can really have the Christmas tree you've always pined for (I thought you'd like that one). I am also currently admiring these glittering salad servers. Perfect for during and after the holiday season!

Ruby Tuesday

I love to cook, but lately haven't had much time to spend over a hot stove. So, I scheduled in a Christmas dinner party for all my displaced friends here in Alberta. After planning the menu, I realized I needed some gear to get this party started and low and behold, I discovered the perfect holiday combination over at my local Anthropologie. This Fiammetta Apron with matching pot holders is just what I need to host a holiday soiree. Now, if only cooking a turkey was this easy!

Alice McCall's Fall/Winter 2012 lookbook has some serious ethereal beauty going on. The dainty cutouts and feather light materials are enough to put me in a trance. These are pieces you would definitely need to throw on a warm sweater or coat with. I'd be willing to fight the cold for these goodies though.

Can you say perfect? The Aura pendant light from Ladies & Gentlemen is just that. Pared down to a simple construction, this light is functional and stunning. In fact, all of the designs from Ladies & Gentlemen are meant to be functionally clever. Just check out these fab salt and pepper shakers. A must buy for anyone on your Christmas list.

That's a Wrap Part Duex

Picking up from last week's post on wrapping for the holiday season, PT brings you Inky Co.  Inky Co. is an Australian paper goods company with lots to offer. They have everything from gift tags to ribbons, scissors to tape, making it a one stop shop for all your wrapping needs. Inky Co. also has a little DIY section where you can find out how to wrap like a pro-star, something I definitely need help with!

If you've started your holiday shopping already, you're ten steps ahead of me. Catbird appears to have my back this year though. With a few sections dedicated to their favourite gifts, shopping is a breeze. Wouldn't this tray look lovely in the bedroom or holding a few items on your coffee table? I love the oddity of it, while still looking so pretty.

I have not been so eager to see a new collection from a designer in a long time, but I'm running out of patience when it comes to Arabella Ramsay. The Australian designer has yet to release her 2013 Spring/Summer collection, so I'm just going to blabber about her current Fall/Winter one in anticipation. Crustacean themed prints, sailor inspired colours, and a youthful, but vintage appeal pretty much sum up the line. Arabella's clothing has a lot going on and it all seems to work together harmoniously.

Maxhedron     Bec Brittain

Panarama Chandelier    West Elm

I've tried to write a few lines for this post, and I guess I'm just speechless. Words do not do justice to these stunning light fixtures by Bec Brittain (via Identical Eye). What an elegant combination of retro and futuristic glamour. If I actually owned these, I probably would sit around all day in utter awe. Luckily, since I can't afford $10,000 light fixtures, I can still go on living a productive lifestyle. Although, West Elm does carry a fixture with delightfully similar effects.

That's a Wrap

Something that possibly excites me more than holiday gifts is holiday wrapping. I normally try to keep things tree-friendly by covering everything in magazine pages, but Sugar Paper may have me branching out this season. The shop carries several charming reversible wrapping papers, so you'll never get bored with just one look. But don't stop there, Sugar Paper also offers some extremely handsome gift tags to finish off the look. I am particularly fond of the white foil on kraft paper.

Ruby Tuesday

There is nothing quite like a good, tailored coat. It's an investment that can make or break an entire outfit. So when I saw this tomato red stunner over at Cupcakes and Cashmere, I knew it was time to fork out some cash. You can find it here at Shopbop, along with this shorter red and white number that is, unfortunately, a little out of my price range. But a girl can dream right?

Happy 1st Anniversary to Pretty Things! I can't believe it has been a full year of sharing our favourite pretty things with you. Time really does fly when you're having fun. Speaking of fun, check out this amazing collection by Maison Scotch. Another discovery from my local boutique, Leslie's, Maison Scotch has just the right mix for work and weekend. I love the versatility of each of the pieces. There are so many crazy cute combinations. And if you're looking for a quick fix to update an outfit, try this beautiful Roman Stamp ring

Originally found over at Bored Panda, this re-purposed bathtub is a stunner and a half (get it?). We love a good DIY project, even extremely ambitious ones like this. Personally, I would throw a couple more pillows on there to make my back more comfy, but otherwise, I'd love to spend an afternoon reading in this tub.

Happy Happy Joy Joy

I just realized that I have never shared the glorious blog that is Oh Happy Day! with all of our wonderful readers. Shame on me. Oh Happy Day! is a fabulous lifestyle site with plenty of DIY projects and lots of ideas for your next event. This paper dot garland made me want to throw a birthday party stat. And call me old fashioned, but I still like to send and receive traditional invitations in the mail. Oh Happy Day! not only posts their own invitation creations, but they also curate some of the best paper mail I've seen on the interwebs. It would be a happy day for me to receive any one of them in the post.
